remix: social media for your closet

The Opportunity:

Fast fashion fuels overconsumption, leaving young adults with limited affordable and sustainable options in their wardrobe. There is an opportunity to design a social media platform with integrated clothing sharing that makes fashion more accessible, social, and sustainable.

User Research

User research was conducted to better understand the target audience and their needs.

Findings:

Users are looking for tools that reduce the risk and confusion of clothing decisions.

Social and community-driven features encourage ongoing engagement and adoption.

Users need customizable sharing options that reflect the dynamics of privacy and borrowing that they’re used to.

After interviewing people across potential user groups, 3 personas were created.

User Testing

Findings

Prioritize Social Features: Users value voting and sharing over matching, so to drive engagement, these features should be centered.

Missing Functionality: Missing points in the user flows were identified, such as layering items of clothing while creating an outfit.

Gaps in user expectation and reality were found, especially in the “Borrowing” category, where users were expecting to be provided with different information.

These findings were addressed iteratively and were identified through multiple rounds of user testing.

Onboarding

Conversational, colloquial language targeted at Gen Z audiences

Easy, simple onboarding to quickly learn the ropes

Home Feed
The Home Feed prioritizes sharing and voting on outfits with your friends.

Borrowing
Within the Borrowing tab, users are able to approve and oversee borrowing from friends as well as monitor their outgoing requests.

Matching

Users have the ability to mix and match their clothing to find the perfect combination, including the option to layer and accessorize.

Users can match items in their friends’ closets with their own items and can simultaneously browse their closet and their friends’.

Friends

Users can view and organize their Friends List as well as view their friends’ closets, saved outfits, and previous polls.

Users may request to borrow items from their friends’ closets by selecting the dates they are interested in.

My Closet
Users can view their own closet, saved outfits, and calendar for clothing sharing, as well as sharing history and their settings.

Reflection

I gained end-to-end experience managing the entire design process and how to take a product to market.

Working on this project allowed me to strengthen my direct communication skills and gain confidence in advocating for my design decisions.
